Planning Your Wedding Day Whether you are the bride or the groom, planning your wedding day can be an exciting and stressful time. There are so many details involved in planning a wedding that couples can lose sight of what the whole event is for and this is unfortunate. There are ways to plan your wedding day that can make everything easier, and that can help everyone stay calm and positive every step of the way. Start with a list Before you even decide on a time or a place, you should make a list together of the things that you think will be important when it comes to your wedding. This may take some compromising on the part of both the bride and the groom, but it is important if you want to avoid arguments or misunderstandings later. In what season would you like to be married? Do you want to be married in a church, or some other place? Would you like a large wedding or a small wedding? The details involved in planning a wedding can seem endless, but if you make a list and go through the details one by one together you can make some important decisions that will help make the process smoother as you go along. Going through your list could take quite a while, so be sure to set enough time aside to be thorough. Accept help Sometimes your first response to an offer of help when it comes to planning your wedding day may be “no thank you, we can take care of it”, but you may not want to be so hasty. If the person who is offering the help is sincere about his or her offer, it could be extremely beneficial for you to graciously accept. Sometimes someone may be offering help because he or she is knowledgeable about something that has to do with one part of your wedding, or he or she has some good connections. If you have a friend who is in the floral business and this friend offers to help with the floral arrangements and wedding bouquet, this can be a great opportunity! Or perhaps you have a friend or family member who has connections in the catering business, and has offered to help with the food for the reception. Delegating responsibilities to the right people can take a lot of stress off planning your wedding day. Just be sure that the people who offer to help are responsible enough to carry things through, and knowledgeable enough to do things right. Take time out as a couple You don’t want planning your wedding day to become such an issue that it takes over your lives as a couple. Don’t lose sight of why you are planning this day in the first place. At least once a week, take time together as a couple to forget wedding plans for the day and do something fun or relaxing. Take a nature hike together, or go to dinner and then see a movie afterward. Don’t talk about your wedding plans just enjoy being together. These little “time outs” will help keep you balanced and relaxed, and will help prevent any tension between you that may be caused by feeling overwhelmed. When you take your day off, let others know what you are doing so that they won’t call to discuss your wedding plans with you during that time. Your wedding day should be one of the most precious days of your lives, and if you approach your planning in a responsible and positive way, and take measures to prevent problems before they arise, you should be fine. |
