Wedding Poetry
If you have ever been in, planned, helped plan, paid for, or have had a wedding, then you have a good idea about how much actually is involved in creating one. For just about every aspect of a wedding, there is poetry, or a place for poetry, to go with it. For everyone from the bride and groom to the guests, there is a place for wedding poetry. For every event from the wedding shower to the reception, and everything in between, there is a place for wedding poetry. You can put it on your invitations, your vows, guest sign-in list, bookmarks, thank you cards, etc. There is a place for poetry even when it’s coming from family, friends, and guests and meant for the bride and groom. You can use poems that are written by someone else, or you can write your own poems. If you do wish to create your own poetry for a wedding, but have never considered yourself a poet, then there are plenty of resources available to help you. You can always get inspiration by reading those sources. You can also cheat a little bit by stealing small chunks; I promise I won’t tell anyone! You can get online and search out websites that offer material on love and/or wedding poetry and some basic guidelines on writing such poems. You can buy or check out a book on the subject, or you could consult with someone personally who might know a thing or two about writing these types of poems. You could find inspiration from simply reading poems by other people, and certainly find inspiration in your own heart when you are personally involved in the wedding. If writing the poetry yourself is not what you want to do, then that’s ok. Some people feel like it’s not coming straight from their heart or it holds less meaning if they don’t write the poetry themselves, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Publicized poems have been created not only for the authors themselves, and not only for the person or persons they may have written it for, but for any and all who might enjoy and appreciate them, and above all else, identify with them. There has been or will be a moment for everyone in which you’ve read something written by someone else and think to yourself “that’s it! That’s how I feel!” It’s like whatever you read took the words right out of your mouth. If looking for a poem as your wedding vow, for your family and friends, for your bridesmaid and best man, or anyone and anything else in a wedding, and you come across a poem that fits perfectly, then it holds just as much meaning for you as it did for the person who wrote it. You can count on the fact that there is no shortage of good love and/or wedding poems out there; and there are ones for every part of and person in a wedding. Wedding poetry is about lasting love, and the union being made between two people intending to stay together forever. It is about the joys, wishes, and dreams of not only the bride and groom, but of all the people who love them as well, and take part in the happy event. It’s about showing appreciation for being a part of it, and giving blessings. These are all things of the heart, which is where poetry of this kind comes from. So, for all aspects of a wedding, let the poetry flow. |
